How CAMHS help young people

This is feedback from staff supporting a young person:

"Your CAMHS clinician managed to engage with a young person who historically has found it hard to reach out for help and trust is a big issue. However the clinician did a stirling job and the young person reported to her parent that she felt the clinician had understood her and she was therefore more willing to trust and engage with Community CAMHS."

Somerset child and adolescent mental health service

Somerset Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) offer a variety of teams and services for young people aged 0 to 18 years old who are struggling with moderate to severe mental health.

We have bases all over Somerset and offer support to young people in the community and in their homes. We also have services that work over the whole of the South West, like our Forensic CAMHS team and National Deaf CAMHS team.

If you are unsure about making a referral to CAMHS then you can discuss your concerns with a Senior Mental Health Practitioner who will be happy to give advice and guidance about whether a referral is appropriate or signpost to other support services across Somerset.

CAMHS single point of access (SPA)

Referrals to the single point of access (SPA) for CAMHS can be made by a wide range of agencies and professionals. The service welcomes referrals by letter, use of the CAMHS referral form, by phone on 0300 124 5012 or early help assessment (EHA) form. Email CAMHSSPA@somersetft.nhs.uk or visit the CAMHS website. CAMHS resources has a list of websites aimed at supporting young people.

At present the SPA is unable to accept self-referrals from parents or young people under 16 years but this is something we are working on and we hope will be available in the future. Although we are accepting self-referrals from young people aged 16 and 17 years old.

SPA has clinicians available for phone support on 0300 124 5012 Monday to Friday from 9am to 4.30pm for advice about how to access the appropriate CAMHS team in a timely manner.
